Starting My Journey: A New Chapter in Life at 55
Tomorrow marks a significant day for me as I embark on a new journey—one that I’ve been eagerly anticipating. At 55, I’m beginning a Level 2 CPCAB (Counseling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) counseling course at college. It’s the first step on a path that I hope will lead to a fulfilling career in helping others, particularly youngsters struggling with substance abuse.
Why Counseling?
You might wonder why I’ve chosen to dive into counseling at this stage in life. For me, it’s about giving back and using the experiences I’ve gathered over the years to make a real difference. I’ve always believed in the power of listening and understanding, and counseling offers a structured way to channel that belief into something tangible and impactful.
My Goals
Starting with Level 2, my goal is to work my way through the CPCAB levels, gaining the knowledge and skills needed to become a qualified counselor. Eventually, I aim to establish my own online practice. The idea of having a flexible, accessible platform where I can reach out to those who need help, especially young people dealing with substance abuse, is incredibly motivating.
The Road Ahead
I know this journey won’t be easy—learning something new, especially something as deep and complex as counseling, requires dedication, empathy, and a lot of patience. But I’m ready for the challenge. Each step will bring me closer to my ultimate goal: helping others navigate their struggles and find a path to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
A Fresh Start
There’s something uniquely empowering about starting something new later in life. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your passions and make a difference. Tomorrow, as I step into the classroom, I’ll be taking the first of many steps towards becoming the person I’ve always wanted to be—a counselor, a guide, and a support system for those who need it most.
This journey is just beginning, and I’m excited to see where it takes me. Here’s to new beginnings, lifelong learning, and the opportunity to make a difference, one step at a time.
